MalCui - KL Cuisine Light Tour (Part 1)

Recently was busy for my current attach work and i deeply apologize for my lated update. Well, after deep consideration, i have come out a title of KL Cuisines Light Tour to ease my update (lazy), there will be a mixture of different cuisine that you and me may find familiar. Please enjoy the trip and don't blame me if you gain weight after reading this....because is well worth for more weight (else fitness center will closed down ha)!

Grilled Chicken Wings

Wong Ah Wah Chicken Wings

This is located at Jalan Alor and has made a really big name for themselves as the best grilled chicken wings in town. The Hong Kong and Taiwanese tourists love this place. They have expanded the operations to cater for seafood enthusiasts by adding deliciously prepared seafood dishes to their list.

What said me: For me i heard a research report claim that wings contain toxin chemicals that animal need to brush off, i seldom eat...some more gril food is more easy to get cancer...but who care because is so delicious.

Wanton Noodles

Koon Kee Wanton Noodles

This old establishment is a little more than a hole in the wall, on Petaling Street itself. The waiters are a little grumpy and you may have to repeat your order a couple of times but it's worth the hassle. One of those few remaining old coffee shops in the vicinity. Closed in the evenings.

What said me: Don't be generous for your dummy, the portion is so light and you may try other food in Petaling Street again. So original taste......remember in school time my mum bring me eat here...

Toong Kwoon Chye

Another great place for wanton noodles with barbequed roast pork. Been around for years and is now run by 3rd generation of the family. Also serves up pretty good Herbal Duck Drumstick Noodle soup and yin yang toast.

Open 7.30am - 7.30pm Located: At Jalan Bintang, across the road from Century Hotel on Jalan Bukit Bintang.

What said me: Great taste with more option, but i accidently delected the precious pictures ha.

Pork Ball Noodles (Yoke Yuen Fun ) , Popiah

Weng Heng Coffee Shop

Serves the best pork ball noodles in town (Really?). And not to mention one of the best places to go for a piping hot plate of Penang Kway Teow.

best pork ball noodles in town (Really?)

- i guess the most important is the soup that determine the final (agree?).

If that's not enough, the popiah is superb too! However you'll have to order this dish from the old man who runs his little stall just outside of the shop. It gets really crowded during lunch hour so go early.

Located: On Jalan Imbi, opposite the Honda Showroom and round the corner from Sakura Restaurant.

What said me: Above average pricing, for me so so only..not the best....ha

Prawn Noodle Soup (Mee Yoke)

Lai Fong Coffee Shop

Another one of those old coffee shops with lots of individual stalls selling all sorts of food. One particular one that sells the Prawn Noodle Soup still remains one of the best choices in town, if you're looking for Prawn Noodle Soup. Closed in the evenings.

Located: Jalan Cheng Lock, on the crossroads with Jalan Petaling across from the Jukebox shoe shop

What said me: When you happen to go there enjoy your prawn mee, please don't forget to save your stomarch for the Beef Noodle Mee there...i can tell you, you will amaze your stomarch can take 2....haha (sorry lupa take picture while having my beef noodles)

Pan Mee (Meen Fun Kueh)

Restoran Kin Kin

This family used to operate under a huge tree nearby but due to developments in the area, they have relocated to a shoplot. A very different style of preparation, one can have it in soup or dry.

The dry pan mee topped with egg and is absolutely deeeeelicious! Lunchtime is packed and the crowd is generally made up of accountants. (The big accounting firms are within the vicinity). You'll see what we mean when you get there.

Open from 8am to 4pm. Located: Jalan Sultan Salahuddin Lorong 2

Adik-Beradik Chua

At the end of a row of prewar terrace houses is this coffee shop selling delicious fish ball noodle soup and pan mee. The chicken rice is quite popular there too and they sell the ever popular White Coffee here!

Closed evenings. Located: on Tengkat Tong Shin

Beef Ball Noodle (Ngau Yoke Meen)

Soong Kee Restaurant

Try the beef ball with 'loh shi fun' either dry or with soup. It's the best, nothing like it!

Open from Dusk till dawn. Located: Jalan Tun H.S.Lee, just down the road from Metrojaya at Jalan Silang.

Ngau Kee

This stall sits on a five foot walkway and opens in the evenings till late. The beef ball noodles are good here but hygiene can be improved.(a lot!) Located: Tengkat Tong Shin, just at the bend opposite Corona Inn.

What said me: No photo provide because was atteact by the noodles and again lupa take pictures.

Hailam Noodle

Yut Kee Coffee Shop

Great place to go for some hailam noodles(pic). The place has been passed on from one generation to the other so the secret of superb cooking is still very much alive within the family.

Closed on Mondays and in the evenings. Also famous for their Lum Meen , Hainanese Chicken Chop(pic) and Roti Babi.

Located: Jalan Dang Wangi, on the corner just opposite the Wilayah Complex

Hainanese Chicken Rice

Nam Heong Chicken Rice
Most reputable shop serving hainanese chicken rice is the one in chinatown. There are now franchised shops all over town but we still return to this one for a good meal of chicken rice and beef brisket soup!
Located: Opposite Furama Hotel and down the road from Swiss-Inn Hotel on Jalan Sultan

Sin Seng Nam Coffee Shop

Noted for its hainanese chicken rice and Chicken Chop. This place has been serving up hainanese dishes for dozens of years and still going strong. If you're in town, try this place.
Closed evenings. Located: Just to the side of Bangkok Bank close to the central market in town

Fish Ball Noodle Soup

Adik-Beradik Chua
At the end of a row of prewar terrace houses is this coffee shop selling delicious fish ball noodle soup and pan mee. The chicken rice is quite popular there too and they sell the ever popular White Coffee here!
Closed evenings. Located: on Tengkat Tong Shin

Cantonese Fried Noodles
The Cantonese Fried Noodles behind the lanes - called Tai Shi Tow
This is the best kept secret in KL…the Cantonese Fried Noodles and Hainanese Chicken rice stall. The sang har meen standard has dropped quite a bit however... not worth the RM79 we paid for a plate for 4!

Location: On Jalan Silang but closer to the Jalan Tun H.S. Lee junction. If turning into Jalan Silang from Jln Tun H.S.Lee, the alleyway will be on your right. The first lane after the turning. Go thru this alleyway which is also cluttered with stalls selling chinese food, carry on until you get to the end of the alleyway and it's smack there. The lane is directly across the street from Restoran Choon Tian and right beside Hon Ming Textile.

Soo Kee Mee Stall

Another place that sells Cantonese Fried Noodles, Paper wrapped chicken, and seafood dishes. A favorite is the fried sliced beef and ginger kway teow dish ( Ngau yoke hor) Gets really crowded during lunch and dinner hours so either go before or after the rush hours.

The Japanese and Korean expats simply love this place. Opens till early morning hours every day. Closed Mondays. Location: Jalan Khoo Teik Ee, just off Jalan Imbi.

End of Part 1 of KL Cuisine Light Tour - Special Thanks to Mr.Ho (my buddy) for sharing the information and journeyMalaysia website.

MalCui – 3 Star Western Cuisine with 2 Star Price

MalCui – A Little Love Bite of Western Cuisine Part 1

Don’t ask me how to hook up this western restaurant, most of my friend ask me what can a normal western restaurant can cook for a delicious western food?

Well I guess I have to introduce this to you, for the non-ordinary western food with middle range of price.

The Cestestoe Café and Restaurant have make my foot step stop here, let’s me guide you to few main course and other side dishes;

Hawaiian Grilled Chicken with BBQ sauce – a pineapple as topping with the BBQ sauces grilled chicken breast meat, 3 little mashed potato and mixed fried vegetable is a combination that you can’t find in any other ordinary western restaurant.

Premium Sausages with Onion Gravy and Mashed potato – this is not enough to fill up my hungry stomach, well the sausages was a taste bite with meaty filling together with the heavy gravy (I love to taste this with bread).

Roasted White Fish with Smoked Bacon – for lady on diet, this was a choice. But I don’t really buy this because it just simply can’t fill up my stomach. It’s a great taste….lady will love it (a bit expensive RM 29.90)

Middle East Tandoori Chicken –middle East?? I have no idea what a middle east cuisine taste like, the chicken is marinated with herbs and spices and baked in oven I guess…but taste good with herbs and spices…but I like gravy food…..

Pork Chop Minty Apply Sauce – pork chop?? Well this is non Halal restaurant, I hardly find pork chop western food in malaysia, this was my first choice. You need to bite hard and chew for the meat, the Minty Apply Sauce have mixed with meat and give you a sensation of great taste (RM 18.90).

Chicken Cordon Bleu – I guess this was famous for those who taste before; well I found this was nothing special, unless you are cheese lover (RM 20.90).

English Roast Chicken with Turmeric Sauces – ha, this was something I love to try, chicken with slow roast in oven (30 minutes minimum to serve), it was worth for waiting to taste the chicken. The sauce topping have 3 options to chose, great taste (RM 19.90).

English Chicken Pie-Pot (Scoop Pie) – simply yet you can taste any way of middle and upper class restaurant.

Middle Easr BBQ Stick – Chicken Tikka Turk, Iranian Lamb Kebab, Shrimps and Mustard Seeds.

Curry Chicken with Premium Baguette
– well, curry lover can try this as your light meal before you take any heavy meal. Great enjoy together with cold beverages.

What my stomach said:
Ha…from now on, I never ever said a ordinary western restaurant is bore to order with limited choices. This restaurant has lots of variety and gravy for their main courses…sound sad that I have to put on weight.
But, if you looking for a commercial western food pricing, please make yourself a turn back, this restaurant was not a cheap consumer place, price is middle range.
How to eat:
I guess you need to drop for more than 1 time to slowly discover the foods, is simply like you treasure a Pandora food Box.
