MalCui – A little discovery of Bandar Puteri Puchong

MalCui – Simply Pinang Restorant at Puchong Bandar Puteri

What you can get at around 10.30pm at night in Bandar Puteri Puchong?

Well searching for something that is light and local taste for my empty stomach, have a drive to Puchong Bandar Puteri due appointment with a client in early time.

When drive along the new area of Bandar Puteri Puchong Business Park, and saw this Simply Penang restorant which suddenly just make me want to taste their Asam Laksa and Rojak.

A big picture of their famous selling dishes is placing in the entrance wall just to give you option to choose when your mind is blank out.

This called Asam Laksa?? Sorry…was too hungry and mixed up the topping before I realize to snap picture, the soup was so heavy gravy with minced fish meat.
Well, Rojak also surrounding with heavy gravy of dark prawn sources.

What my stomach said:
I have attracted to the Asam Laksa because of the heavy gravy of minced fish meat and light
spicy. Is provided with the dark prawn sources and lime, cant said is the best of all the Asam Laksa I tried but simply just that remind you to make comparison with others.
Rojak? Perhaps I have tried other before, too little fruits perhaps can said that ingredients does not give me any surprise but the heavy gravy dark prawn sources is the selling point that make you continue to consume until the last piece.
Well don't know what to order? Just simple, just look at the big giant poster of what she recommended, just follow.....
Hosted by TV3 "cari-cari makan" program...surprise they put it as one of their selling point.

Location:
Entering the Bandar Puteri Puchong, immediate turn left which is just next to Al Rahji Bank.

MalCui - What KL have? Part 2

MalCui – KL Cuisine Light Tour (Halal) Part 2

Ikan Bakar

Gerai Seri Menanti

The owners are from Negri Sembilan, hence the name Seri Menanti. This extremely popular gerai or stall at the end of Jalan Bellamy, is always packed during lunch hours. Curry and spice marinaded fish grilled over charcoal fire and served on banana leaf laced plate…sounds tempting?

Just a little advice, bring a gas mask with you, the spicy smoke filled barbeque pit can be a little overbearing. Or better still, get an unsuspecting colleague to stand in line for you and sit as far away from the barby pit as you can. (have to queue to order your choice fish from the barbeque pit - stil need to face it anyhow).

What said me: Worth it! The sambal sauce is simply a taste sealer! The place is open from Mon - Fri(12pm - 3pm , 5.30pm - dinner) , Sat (11am - 4pm only) Sun (closed)
Location: At the end of Jalan Bellamy

Indian Rojak / Mee Rebus / Chendol

The stall at the bend of Changkat Thamby Dollah
'Manned' by a grandma, her daughter and a grandson. The old manual ice-shaver is still in use here and you can have your chendol with corn and red bean topping if you like. (sorry dint have time to take picture because it's go inside my dummy)

The stall is open most of the day and it's a nostalgic little place - under the cherry tree stall, with a few tables and chairs. Like how it was when we were schooling and walking home from school, there was always a place we could go for our 30sen rojak, or 15sen chendol....remember?

Location: On Changkat Tambi Dollah, heading towards the Kampung Pandan roundabout

Nasi Bryani

Restoran Bismillah

Really good bryani rice here to go with the ayam goreng and kuah ikan. The place opens from breakfast til dinner but closed Friday afternoons for prayers. It gets pretty packed during the usual government break time and that would be(???)...the usual morning, lunch, afternoon and tea breaks

Location: On Jalan Semarak, just after the Datuk Keramat- Jalan Semarak-Lorong Gurney traffic junction. Watch out for the shoplots on the left if coming from the AAM side

Satay

Restoran Mulia
This restoran has been around for quite some years now. This corner restaurant started with a satay stall and now has expanded to include a variety of dishes like Sup Tulang(Oxtail soup but malaysian style), western food like steak and chips, fried rice and all the usuals you may find in a malay hawker stall turned restaurant thingy!
Business hours: Open only after 4.00pm and closed on Sundays.
Location: At the crossroads of Kampung Baru - Jalan Semarak - Jalan Tun Razak. Corner shop on ground floor of an old shop-apartment building. But parking is horrendous! beware..

Queen's Hotel

This is a great place to savour all sorts of Malaysian hawker food from sup kambing to satay and tom yam noodles. Chinese food galore here too! The satay is considered one of the best in town. Open only in the evenings. Makes sense....it's much cooler especially if you choose to dine alfresco!
Location: Peel Road.

Banana Leaf Rice(Southern Indian)

Achar
Greaaaaat banana leaf rice! Lots and lots of spices, get your hands grubby , dig in. You won't regret it. Thing is, it's only open for lunch and it's in PJ, so it's really not in KL but it's good food and we simply must share this one with you.
What said me: This is a real once a month fix! Mind you having the basic veggies and rice is reasonably priced but when there are orders for the meats etc, it can come up to quite a bill.

Location: Get onto Jalan Gasing, go all the way down heading towards the roundabout. Just before the roundabout there is a left turning. Take this turning and follow the road round to the right and head about 100m you will get to some single storeyed shop houses. Achar is actually a sort of shanty extension of this shoplot. Can't miss it - there's a becha parked at the entrance.

Sempoorna

Good banana leaf rice and serves lovely paper thosai, murtabak and has a wide variety Indian desserts. Cheap too! Open all day till late.

Location: Brickfields. A row of shops opposite the main crossroads - lots of banana leaf rice restaurants here. Sempoorna is in the middle.

Kaana

Another of those great banana leaf rice joints in PJ. The rassam here is really good and is open til very late night.

Location: Section 17, it's in the area just behind Lisa De Inn hotel (on the rothman's roundabout). Situated in row of 2 or 3 storeyed shops.

Chennai Ponnusamy

This is a little gem that's located just behind Bangsar's ever popular Nirvana. Not many know about this place but it's cheap and the curry is good.. well some dishes are good.. like the fried chicken masala , curry crab and the fried fish fillet.
The vegetarian set meal comes with a chapati, poppadoms, rice, a selection of vegetarian dishes, dal, rassam and yoghurt for only RM5 per set!! Oh, ad don't forget the Bru Coffee. Just to complete the meal. Lovely!!

Location: Bangsar Telawi, it's located near Kashmir restaurant and FLAM's restaurant.

P/S: this was my first time gather some non-halal cuisine infor, well special thanks to Mr.Ho and journey malaysia contribution.

In conjunction with their celebration of 18th anniversary, they offer the Chinese seafood buffet style for the month of April 2007.

The condition is minimum 2 pax, each individual is charge for only RM 38* (excluded 5% GST & 10% service charge).

Wide variety of dishes that you can choose from (around 100 choices), well is making me wanna try without fear of getting weight.

(Please kindly drop me an email to request the menu – danielchychan@yahoo.com or click on the menu image for enlargement)

What my stomach said: Well, I guess you can avoid couple going to try this Chinese seafood buffet, simply because you cant taste all…get a gang of friend and reservation before step in…and order each of the food portion for half of your friend pax, which allow you to have more room in stomach to continue taste the food.
